One influencer. One ex-movie star. One genetically enhanced shark with a laser on its head.
After launching their horror-comedy DROPBEAR to international release through ITN Distribution and local release via Hilldale Entertainment, South Australian filmmakers John deCaux and Jackson Johns are diving back into creature-feature chaos with their next micro-budget film: PROJECT GREAT WHITE.
Shooting mid-March in Port Adelaide Enfield
PROJECT GREAT WHITE is set to begin principal photography in mid-March, shooting entirely on location in and around the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.
The production reunites many of the same cast and crew from DROPBEAR and continues the team’s resourceful model of rapid, independent filmmaking driven by practical effects, satire, and unashamed genre chaos.
Distribution will again be handled locally by Hilldale Entertainment, with international release through ITN Distribution, who launched DROPBEAR into the international market last year.
What is PROJECT GREAT WHITE?
It’s Predator meets Love Island, if Love Island only had one broke influencer, a cheap US producer, a washed-up movie star, and a beach poisoned by a toxic algae bloom.
Then a classified great white surfaces, juiced on super-serum and strapped with a laser. As the bodies stack up, the government sends a black-ops cleanup team with one directive:
Erase the footage by erasing the people.
A lean, relentless local production pipeline
Following the closure of Star Avenue Studios in late 2025, PROJECT GREAT WHITE will be filmed entirely on location, marking a new phase for the team’s stripped-back, location-first approach to genre production.
Post-production and visual effects will be completed in Adelaide through Pulsar Post and Australis FX, both founded to keep high-end creative services accessible for indie filmmakers and emerging talent.
“We learned a lot making DROPBEAR at speed,” said producer Jackson Johns.
“With Great White, we’re taking that foundation and doubling down. Same spirit, tighter pipeline, and a film that knows exactly what it is: ridiculous, ruthless, and built to entertain.”
DROPBEAR home release coming Q2 and encore screening.
Following its successful theatrical run, DROPBEAR is set for home media release in Q2 2026, giving audiences another chance to experience Australia’s least cuddly marsupial in bloodthirsty action.
Before then, fans will have one last opportunity to catch it on the big screen, with an encore screening on Wednesday 11 February at The Piccadilly with a cast and crew Q&A to follow.
