While Universal loudly and publicly screwed the pooch trying to set up their big shared horror* screen universe, James Wan and company have been quietly and successfully doing it on a smaller scale, spinning off ideas and concepts from The Conjuring.
David F. Sandberg, who did the pretty decent Lights Out, is taking the reins here to tell the story of how the creepy possessed doll, Annabelle, became a creepy possessed doll. What does that mean for us? Dead kid, guilt-wracked parents, isolated orphanage, disabled protagonist, creepy demon, and the odd jump scare. Looks like fun.
Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Philippa Coulthard, Grace Fulton, Lou Lou Safran, Samara Lee, Tayler Buck, Anthony LaPaglia, and Miranda Otto star in Annabelle: Creation, which hits Australian cinemas on August 10, 2017.
