‘Safer Workplace Strategies’ – Industry Forum to address harassment in the Australian Screen Industry
Recent revelations of sexual misconduct across the international screen sector and current allegations in our local industry, have reignited the conversation regarding the safety of women in the Australian screen sector. To propel change, Women in Film and Television (WIFT) NSW is joining forces with Screen Australia, Create NSW, Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), Screen Diversity and Inclusion Network, Foxtel, Screen Producers Australia, Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance together with Rape and Domestic Violence Services Australia are collaborating to present a ‘Safer Workplace Strategies’ forum.
The half-day forum on Tuesday 12 December hosted by AFTRS, will be live streamed nationally. Panels will feature experts addressing sexual harassment and assault as well as broader bullying and intimidation within the context of the film and television industry. The panels will take a practical toolkit approach encompassing individual’s safety and workplace rights alongside personal and organisational responsibilities.
Megan Riakos, WIFT NSW President says “It is critical to have sector wide involvement to address these issues. The collegiate support to deliver this event is key to working towards a common goal of a safer, equitable workplace for all. I encourage everyone who works in screen to join us on December 12th.”
Fiona Cameron, COO of Screen Australia states “We are committed to seeing an industry wide shift of culture and are dedicated to working with peak industry bodies to facilitate lasting change.”
WIFT NSW encourages employers to set aside time for staff to attend the session or view the live streaming of the event. The program, additional industry partners, registration and live stream details will be provided shortly.
