RAMS FLOCKS TO TOP SPOT ON AUSTRALIAN BOX OFFICE
Australian feature film, RAMS has taken top spot on its opening weekend, bringing in a cumulative box office total of $1.27M, excluding Victorian cinemas.
Australian audiences have shown their desire for new releases with RAMS posting $805K for its opening weekend, making it the third highest opening weekend figure in a post-COVID-19 environment, behind American blockbusters ‘TENET’ and ‘AFTER WE COLLIDED’ – also distributed by Roadshow Films.
The announcement was made today by Joel Pearlman, CEO of Roadshow Films stating, “Roadshow has continued to support Australian Exhibition throughout this difficult year, and RAMS’ opening weekend result proves that Australian audiences are enthusiastic to return to cinemas. We are thrilled with these numbers and anticipate that strong word of mouth carries these results through to the end of the year, especially once Victorians cinemas are deemed safe to re-open.”
RAMS features an all-star cast led Sam Neill, Michael Caton with Miranda Richardson, Asher Keddie and Wayne Blair, and directed by Jeremy Sims.
This Box Office result also comes after Sam Neill was among the first slate of nominees for the 2020 AACTA Awards, with a nomination for Best Lead Actor for his role.
A reimagining of the award-winning Icelandic drama, RAMS is set in remote Western Australia, where two estranged brothers, Colin (Sam Neill) and Les (Michael Caton), are at war. Raising separate flocks of sheep descended from their family’s prized bloodline, the two men work side by side yet are worlds apart. When Les’s prize ram is diagnosed with a rare and lethal illness, authorities order a purge of every sheep in the valley. While Colin attempts to stealthily outwit the powers that be, Les opts for angry defiance. But can the warring brothers set aside their differences and have a chance to reunite their family, save their herd, and bring their community back together?
