PHOENIX WORLDWIDE PICKS UP AUSTRALIAN DOCUMENTARY ‘THE RUN’ FOR GLOBAL SALES AT CANNES
Phoenix Worldwide today announced it is handling global sales on award-winning Australian documentary The Run, which follows Australian ultra-marathon runner Pat Farmer’s epic running journey across India.
Temple’s Anupam Sharma produced the film with Deepti Sachdeva as co-producer, Penny Robbins as consultant producer and Shallu Kundra, Manu Kundra and Jacqui Miller Charlton MBE as executive producers.
Phoenix Worldwide has commenced sales on the project and is introducing to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival, where it has already sold to public broadcaster RTV Slovenia and Italian distributor Enjoy Films.
First premiering at the 2018 Newcastle International Film Festival to critical acclaim, The Run is a feature length documentary which follows Pat Farmer’s test of human spirit and behind the scenes drama as he runs the length of India. Covering 12 states and passing through cities like Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Agra, New Delhi and Chandigarh, the 80 kilometre a day journey took Farmer 64 days to complete with the backdrop of the colourful, enchanting, challenging, organised chaos of India.
Emanuele Moretti, Head of Acquisition and Partner of Phoenix Worldwide Entertainment said: “We always look out for Australian features especially those which may have global appeal. Anupam’s documentary is wonderfully made and we found a lot of interest in our buyers for this feature, which deals with the test of human spirit, organised chaos and sporting achievement against the colourful and musical backdrop of India. Phoenix is very excited to be the global sales agent for this award-winning film.”
Producer/director Anupam Sharma said: “We were hoping to sell a few territories directly and didn’t expect a worldwide sales agent to pick this up, so it is a delight that a company of the stature of Phoenix is going to be selling my film around the world. I am genuinely excited at the possibility of audiences around the world watching this diverse Australian story made possible with government support from Australia and India, completed with help from Screen Australia’s PEP program for low budget films.”
The Run was one of the first projects to be supported by India’s public diplomacy unit under Ministry of External Affairs with the then Indian High Commissioner to Australia HE Mr. Navdeep Suri championing the project and the film for unprecedented support by bureaucracy, tourism and administration of 12 states in India and federally.
