Love, Guns and Level Ups
Adelaide based filmmaking team Fury Fingers Films (Andrew Shanks, Nicholas Cleary and Daniel Vink) have been selected to take part in Skip Ahead, a production grant provided by Screen Australia, Google and YouTube. The Skip Ahead initiative supports Australian online content creators, who have YouTube channels with a substantial existing subscriber base and/or content which has reached significant viewership, to expand their vision and create more ambitious content to grow their audience.
This green lights Fury Fingers Films next production Love, Guns and Level Ups, a web-series premiering on the Fury Fingers YouTube Channel Friday 18th September 6pm ACST.
Love, Guns and Level Ups Synopsis: When an International cosplayer and an introverted game developer connect online, they discover the challenges of a real-world relationship. An action rom-com about video games and modern dating.
Known for their award-winning web series ‘Goons INC’, the Fury Fingers team have an impressive track record of making high quality shorts about video game culture. Love, Guns and Level Ups promises to be a fun, thrilling, heartfelt contemporary love story infused with action, comedy and pop culture.
“We’ve really packed the series with visual effects, gun-fights, sword choreography, zombies, parkour and stunts – It’s wild and clever to boot!” says Co-Director Nicholas Cleary.
Producer Jodie Kirkbride of Get Back Jojo Productions, stated, “This is the biggest project of my producing career. I am thrilled to be part of the production and collaborating with this talented team. We are so grateful to Screen Australia, Google Australia, YouTube and the South Australian Film Corporation for their generous funding and I am looking forward to working with local South Australians on this series.”
The six part web series has been filmed and edited locally in South Australia, providing many talented local creatives the opportunity to work on a professional shoot. Partial filming took place at the Adelaide Supanova comic con and gaming convention, bringing talented and popular local cosplayers to the screen.
Co-director Andrew Shanks added “Adelaide is really turning into a huge asset for the Australian film industry. We have proven time and time again that we can create outstanding quality productions right in our own backyard. The film industry is creating jobs for South Australians but also giving young talent a platform to create a name for themselves. It’s a really exciting time to be a young filmmaker.”
