KANGAROO Qualifies for the Academy Awards
INDIEVILLAGE is delighted to announce that the Australian documentary, KANGAROO a Love Hate story has qualified for the 2019 Academy Awards.
Kate McIntyre Clere (Yogawoman) and Mick McIntyre’s (Aussie Rules the World) controversial and comprehensive documentary about one of the world’s most recognisable icons, the kangaroo opened in cinemas in early 2018 to rave reviews.
“The filmmakers are determined to sound a wake-up siren, and they blast it here with extra strength.” – New York Times Review
“Insightful and eye opening” – Los Angeles Times
“Recalls films such as “The Cove” and “Blackfish” – Variety Review
“Shocking and revealing” – BBC London
“The most controversial Australian documentary ever released in America”
– Channel 7 Sunrise
KANGAROO – A Love-Hate Story will now have additional screenings in Los Angeles as part of its “for your consideration” campaign. Nominations for the 2019 Academy Awards will be announced in early January
The ‘image’ of the kangaroo is used proudly by top companies, sports teams and souvenir-makers, yet as the animals hop across the vast continent many consider them only as pests to be shot and sold for food and profit. This ground-breaking film examines the love-hate relationship at the very heart of a divided country.
Award winning filmmakers Mick McIntyre and Kate McIntyre Clere: “To make Kangaroo, we travelled thousands of kilometres across the magnificent Australian outback, speaking with Indigenous Australians, scientists, meat processors, commercial shooters, farmers, politicians, artists, wildlife carers, chefs and activists, to explore the wonder of this magnificent and unique animal and wove together this unsettling story for the world to see.”
