Game of Thrones star Jerome Flynn announced as face of MORNING STAR documentary crowdfunding campaign

Game of Thrones star Jerome Flynn will be the face of the crowdfunding campaign to support the upcoming documentary MORNING STAR, currently in pre-production. Despite a busy schedule promoting the final season Game of Thrones and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Jerome has lent his support to the MORNING STAR documentary crowdfunding campaign.

MORNING STAR is the sequel to 2017’s Westwind: Djalu’s Legacy, which followed Aboriginal elder Djalu Gurruwiwi as he strove to pass down his ancient knowledge and sacred songlines to the next generation and find a worthy custodian. Through a cunning plan to inspire the next generation by travelling the world and proving that Aboriginal culture is revered and celebrated, and with the help of pop star Gotye, Djalu shifted the mindset of his son Larry Gurruwiwi.

MORNING STAR will continue tracking Larry, who has accepted the role of custodian, and his brothers Jason and Vernon as they embark on their first tour of Europe, performing as Larry Gurruwiwi and Malawurr . They will continue their father’s legacy and share their 60,000-year-old songlines and culture with festival audiences. They will play at famed world music events such as WOMAD UK, and are travelling to England, Wales, Czech Republic and France.

MORNING STAR is crowdfunding to raise money to cover the costs of the Gurriwiwi brothers’ European trip. Donations can be made via Indiegogo from May 6.

As an avid musician and music lover, Jerome Flynn has always admired the sound of the didgeridoo and is thrilled that Larry Gurruwiwi and his brothers are able to share their songlines with Europe, and in particular Wales, where he lives.

Jerome said, “Larry and the band are coming to Wales as part of the tour to connect with the rich history of songlines that have also existed in Welsh culture for millennia.”

Traditional Welsh music has many parallels with Indigenous music and Jerome is looking forward to the band discovering this through musical collaborations with local musicians during the Welsh leg of the tour. Jerome is actively facilitating these collaborations.

Filmmaker Ben Strunin is calling for contributions to help capture the next chapter of Larry Gurruwiwi’s story and share Galpu songlines with the world.

Ben said, “We need your support to get Larry Gurruwiwi and Malawurr to Europe, to share their culture with European audiences. By documenting their journey Larry and his brothers can show the next generation of Yolngu youth that their culture is respected worldwide.”
