Cinema Nova Introduces TV On The Big Screen
In partnership with SBS and Matchbox Pictures, Cinema Nova is thrilled to exclusively screen the first two episodes of THE FAMILY LAW, the New SBS Original series, on the big screen on Tuesday 12 January at 6.30pm. The premiere at Cinema Nova is two days before THE FAMILY LAW will commence its season onThursday January 14, 8:30pm on SBS.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with author and screenwriter Benjamin Law, executive producer Tony Ayres, producer Julie Eckersley and hosted by author Alice Pung (Unpolished Gem).
Tony Ayres, the executive producer of THE FAMILY LAW said, “‘The Family Law’ is a dream project for me and Matchbox. It’s a family comedy which can speak toward a broad audience yet is simultaneously and quintessentially very Chinese”.
Cinema Nova’s General Manager, Kristian Connelly said, “Cinema Nova is renowned for its literary connections, be it a book’s adaptation for the screen, our Page 2 Picture Q&A events or the quintessential Carlton experience of heading to Readings before or after your movie at Nova. The opportunity to host Benjamin Law, one of Australia’s most celebrated writers, not only gives his highly anticipated SBS original series the big screen premiere it deserves but it also celebrates the award-winning creative team behind THE FAMILY LAW”.
THE FAMILY LAW is based on Benjamin Law’s much-loved memoir, and adapted for the screen by Benjamin Law and Marieke Hardy. The Laws are a sprawling Chinese-Australian family who are unlike any you have ever seen before, yet might also be strangely more familiar than you’d expect… Much like the Law family itself, this is a series that is funny and messy, awkward, cringe-worthy, and overflowing with heart. This is a show about sabotaged expectations, growing pains, finding your place in the world, and the strange embarrassment we feel towards the people we’re supposed to love the most: our family.
The Family Law is developed and produced by Matchbox Pictures in association with Screen Queensland, Screen Australia and SBS.
Tickets for the special premiere event are on sale now from Cinema Nova’s box office orcinemanova.com.au. Admission includes the screening of Episode 1: Queensland’s Got Talent, Episode 2: Tra-la-la-la-Law and a copy of the TV tie-in edition of The Family Law, published by Black Inc. and signed by Benjamin Law for each ticket holder.
