The ACT Government has provided the local screen industry with a $5million fund. The CBR Screen Fund will be managed by Screen Canberra.

Monica Penders, CEO of Screen Canberra, said “This is a game changer for our industry. We can be strategic and are seeking to work closely with local and incoming producers to develop projects that will have a meaningful impact on the local industry.” “This CBR Screen fund is the culmination of many years of close partnership with the ACT Government and we are absolutely thrilled with this significant investment into the local screen industry”.

Over the past 5 years Canberra has become a location of choice for high-end TV dramas such as THE CODE and SECRET CITY and feature films such as JOE CINQUE’S CONSOLATION and GALORE.  Ease of access and approvals, clear light, under filmed locations, no traffic and a proactive film office has made Canberra a great place to film.

Canberra is also building a reputation nationally for commercially focused low-budget features.  Developed through Screen Canberra’s Accelerator Pod program, THE FURIES recently completed its shoot and is currently attracting strong international sales.

The Fund will also allocate a minimum of 20% of its total funding to local emerging screen content providers.

“This is very important in building local IP and capacity. We need projects that give Canberra based crews and talent opportunity. It’s all about getting a balance between local and incoming productions,” said Monica.

It is expected that the CBR Screen Fund will be open for business at the end of July.
