THE 2018 VOLVO SCANDINAVIAN FILM FESTIVAL SET TO WELCOME FESTIVAL GUESTS

Iranian-born, Danish filmmaker Mehdi Avaz, director of WHILE WE LIVE will attend the festival along with lead actress Julie Christiansen (Borgen, Heartless). They will visit Sydney and Melbourne to host special Q&A sessions and film introductions for their multiple Danish Academy Award (Robert Award) nominated film.

Inspired by true events, WHILE WE LIVE follows four people in Northern Denmark and how their fates intertwine after a tragic accident.

Recently named among Variety’s “10 Europeans to Watch,” which highlights 10 talents from across the continent who are poised for breakthroughs in 2018, Mehdi Avaz and his brother Milad Avaz (who penned the screenplay) bring to life this remarkable story of family, loss and love. After a successful career as an award-winning stills photographer, Mehdi ventured into moving pictures – starting with commercials, music videos and live shows. Mehdi’s inspiration for his debut feature film came about after a tragic accident that occurred in his childhood town. WHILE WE LIVE was an unprecedented hit in Denmark (going straight to second place on its opening weekend behind only Thor: Ragnarok), and has been dubbed the best Danish debut in decades.

Julie Christiansen is a Danish actress on the rise. Since her debut in the 2006 Danish Academy Award nominated film Life Hits, she has been earning notice for her work across film and television. In 2011, Julie appeared in the second season of Borgen and from 2011-2012 appeared in the Danish Academy Award-nominated TV series Lykke. From 2014-2015 she starred in the Danish series Heartless – which saw her receive her first Danish Academy Award nomination. Her role as Trine in WHILE WE LIVE is her most acclaimed to dateshe has received her second Danish Academy Award nomination and won the Bodil Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The festival will take place nationally from 10 July in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Brisbane and Hobart.
