Two girls, a ghost, and a Torana sounds like an interesting combo, and that’s what we’re getting in the new Aussie indie road movie, Just Between Us.
Written by, produced by, and starring Joanne Nguyen and Deanna “Dee” Ortuso, Just Between Us is the story of an inveterate people pleaser (Ortuso) who finds herself still standing in her vibrant sister’s shadow even after said sister has shuffled off this mortal coil. When her sister’s ghost charges her with dealing with her unfinished business, she hits the road with her lifelong friend (Nguyen) in tow.
Directed by Christopher Kay, the film was shot in 52 locations over three states (VIC, NSW and SA), and boasts guest appearances from Kaarin Fairfax (Picnic at Hanging Rock), Clayton Jacobson (Kenny), John Jarratt (Wolf Creek) and Barry Morgan (Spicks & Specks).
“If this story can reach people’s hearts and minds, and make them understand that celebrating life is much more important than mourning death, then the entire crew, cast and myself, have done what we all set out to do,” said Kay.
Just Between Us was one of only four films accepted into the MIFF 37º South Market ‘Breakthru Screening Program’ in 2017, and will be coming to the big screen in Australia courtesy of Umbrella in May. In the meantime, keep track of the film’s fortunes via the official Facebook page.
