The Peter Rabbit Trailer Promises an Updated Take on the Kid-Lit Classic

September 22, 2017
What would Beatrix Potter think?

I don’t know if we needed a kind of sassed up take on the old Beatrix Potter kids’ classic, but that seems to be what we’re getting. Peter Rabbit sees James Corden (The Late, Late Show) lend his lungs to the titular lapin, making trouble for poor gardener Mr. McGregor (Domhnall “I’m in everything!” Gleeson). Not pictured: Rose Byrne, who crops up at Gleeson’s love interest. The voice cast also includes Daisy Ridley, Elizabeth Debicki, Margot Robbie ad Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail, which is kind of great, and Sam Neill rounds out the human element.

Director Will Gluck did Easy A, which was great, and the 2014 remake of Annie, which was not, so that kind of balances out, and Aussie effects house Animal Logic are bringing the furry cast to life, so that element alone will be impressive.

All else aside, that “deer in the headlights” bit is cute.

Peter Rabbit is in cinemas from March 22, 2018.
