Remember the early teaser for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man where Spidey caught a helicopter in a giant web between the World Trade Centre Towers? That clip has all but disappeared, the only evidence of its existence being a few low-rez unofficial streaming videos scattered around the web. It’s never been released on any official home media (correct us if we’re wrong). It’s a safe bet that the promos featuring Kevin Spacey as John Paul Getty in All the Money in the World will suffer a similar fate – the first trailer has already disappeared from the Sony YouTube channel, and a swift round of takedown notices should see it quickly purged completely from other sources. Interesting times.
Anyway, this new trailer certainly vibes more like an action movie, with the focus firmly on Mark Wahlberg’s CIA operative turned fixer as he tries to negotiate the release of kidnapped John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) while Getty the Elder (Christopher Plummer now, in case you’ve been in a coma) staunchly refuses to pony up the cash. There’s a telling moment where Marky’s Fletcher Chase asks Getty how much money he needs to feel secure. “More,” the plutocrat answers simply.
This looks to be a solid effort from Ridley Scott (the odds are generally 50/50) and worth getting into the cinema for when it lands on January 4, 2018.
