There’s a bit of received wisdom going around – utter nonsense but still surprisingly popular nonetheless – that all Marvel movies have the same “house style”. It seems that stuck in Marvel’s craw a little bit, as their latest films go out of their way to forefront the authorial voices of their directors. Without going into spoiler territory, Thor: Ragnarok is such a Taika Waititi film, and it looks like Black Panther is going to be one hell of Ryan Coogler flick.
For those who came in late (wait, that’s another Africa-based hero…) follows the exploits ot T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), first seen in Captain America: Civil War, who, upon the death of his father, not only inherited the throne of the super-tech African kingdom of Wakanda, but also the mantle of the Black Panther, his people’s traditional defender. With villains like Michael B. Jordan’s Killmaster and Andy Serkis’ Klaw (last seen getting his arm torn off in Age of Ultron) lurking about the place, it’s up to our hero to step up to the plate – which, judging by the trailer, he does in fine style. Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker co-star.
We’re crazy excited for this one. Black Panther hits Australian cinemas on February 15, 2018.
Oh, and check out the poster!
