Jason Momoa is always worth watching – even when he’s in something less than optimal (say, the Conan the Barbarian remake), he’s often the best thing going in whatever project he’s found himself. He’s clearly having a huge time in Justice League, which bodes well for James Wan’s upcoming Aquaman movie. If you can’t wait that long, though, November 24 sees his return in the Netflix Original historical drama, Frontier.
Sitting comfortably on the quality scale between Deadwood (not as good as…) and The Tudors (markedly better), Frontier is set in 1700s Canada and sees Momoa as Declan Harp, a half-Irish, half-Cree rebel fighting a guerrilla war against the Hudson Bay Company, who monopolised the fur trade at the time. It does tend to sacrifice character in favour of sex, bastardry and murder, but who doesn’t enjoy seeing Big Jase carving up evil Englishmen with tomahawk and hunting knife? Nobody, that’s who.
