Murali Thalluri was an overnight success story, when his independent Adelaide made drama 2:37 was selected for Cannes, released around the world, and launched the careers of the likes of Teresa Palmer and Xavier Samuel. But it has been one hell of a long time since he has followed up that success, with a film called One announced back in 2013, but never eventuating.
In the meantime, Thalluri has been trying to get another film up, with today’s announcement by entertainment company Wonderfilm a positive sign that we may actually see another feature from the promising filmmaker, this one called Run.
“It amazes me how children manage to find magic, wonder and mystery amidst the most tragic and hopeless of circumstances,” said Thalluri in a press release about Run. “Stories like Life Is Beautiful, The Jungle Book, Peter Pan, and so on, have inspired me to use the vast and mysterious landscape of India as our canvas to the story of Grace and Kishore, an American girl and Indian boy both sold into slavery and forced to run for the their lives as we follow their adrenaline filled, magical, heartbreaking yet uplifting story of hope and innocence in the midst of a much darker world. Run is a modern-day fable about two children from opposite worlds bonded by heartache and a journey that will not only change their lives but millions more like them forever.”
Run has an estimated budget of $20m, with cinematographer Lance Gewer (Tsotsi, Kite) attached and is being produced by Wonderfilm, Kojo’s Kent Smith and Thalluri.
“Run is a remarkable project and we are honoured to be producing this film with Murali. We have seen the power of Run with the response from ‘A-list’ talent and are finalising talks for our leads,” said Wonderfilm’s CEO Kirk Shaw.

Lel should have called it “burning bridges”
Run – as in running from the investors of his many failed ventures? Pretty sure the majority of that investment went into his “social habits”.
That money is goooooone. You’d have to be stupid to have signed a deal with him.
Another failure to launch it seems? Am sure he raised a bunch of money from investors to continue paying for his lifestyle. I heard he loaned himself his entire salary in advance on his last unproduced film out of early investor funds and just spent it on himself. He’s an unhinged con man with a drug problem.
