Actually, what’s weird is that a brilliant serial killer show produced by David Fincher can hit Netflix this week, but the buzz is all about Stranger Things 2. The Duffer brothers’ homage to ’80s horror and small town Americana has really hit a nerve.
Putting aside the whole Lovecraftian apocalypse vibe, what can we glean from this one? Well, we get a quick look at new players – and ’80s nostalgia touchstones – Paul Reiser and Sean Astin, plus Mille Bobby Brown is back, with hair this time. Good for her. The question is, will Reiser be a good guy, ala Mad About You, or a bad guy, ala Aliens? He seems to be a scientist here, so all indications point to the latter.
The other thing worth noting is that our ragtag gang of small town heroes have dealt with weird evil before, so this time they’re not so much on the backfoot. It seems that this season they’re gonna tool up and go chasing after the bad guys sooner rather than later – no more of that “refusing the call” BS.
This is gonna be fun. Stranger Things 2 hits Netflix on October 27, 2017.
