It’s been a while between drinks for Australian director Julius Avery, whose 2014 feature debut Son of a Gun saw former Jedi Ewan McGregor and future Teen Titan Brenton Thwaites team up to knock off a Kalgoorlie gold mine. Now he’s back in the saddle again for the JJ Abrams-produced WWII guys-on-a-mission horror flick, Overlord.
Written by Billy Ray (Shattered Glass) and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant), Overlord sees Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, and Pilou Asbæk as members of a commando team parachuted behind German lines prior to D-Day, only to stumble across what appears to be a Nazi zombie factory. Gore and gunfire ensues.
This looks like a blast – it’s been a while since we’ve seen some evil Nazi super-science/mysticism on the big screen, and the prospect of a squad of salty dogfaces moving down the undead with chattering Tommy guns certainly has us excited. Overlord is in the cinemas from October 25 – just in time for Halloween! – and we will be there.
