Arguably the greatest actor of his time, Daniel Day-Lewis has retired from the craft (again! remember when he ran off to become a cobbler?) and has decided to re-team with his There Will Be Blood director, Paul Thomas Anderson, for his swan song.
Phantom Thread sees DDL as a genius fashion designer, Reynolds Woolcock, tortured by his own feelings of unworthiness, and in turn torturing love interest Alma (Vicky Krieps), set against the backdrop of glamorous 1950s London (they may be working from a different definition of “glamorous” than the one we’re accustomed to).
It’ll be great because, hey, Paul Thomas Anderson – easily one of the best filmmakers currently working. Expect Phantom Thread in Australian cinemas from February 1, 2018. I the meantime, enjoy this poster:
