Sicario: Day of the Soldado may he lumbered with an unwieldy title and lack the steady hand of original director Denis Villeneuve on the tiller, but we are still here for it, largely because watching Benicio Del Toro slaughter cartel dirtbags is never not a fine evening’s entertainment.
Now we have some plot details. It seems that Del Toro’s lawyer-turned-mercenary is tasked with kidnapping a cartel honcho’s daughter (Isabela Moner), but balks at offing the kid, which brings conflict with Josh Brolin’s shady CIA spook. Cue the gunfire.
Co-starring Jeffrey Donovan, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener, directed by Stefano Sollima and written by original Sicario scribe Taylor Sheridan, Sicario: Day of the Soldado is in Australian cinemas from June 28, 2018.
