Australian actress Demitra Sealy has been accepted on a scholarship program into the Master’s Course at the Actors Studio in New York, following a successful audition process.
The young performer had auditioned earlier in the year, but was only recently notified of her acceptance.
“Going over to audition in January of this year was my first time ever visiting America,” Sealy said. “It was a wonderful and terrifying experience right outside my comfort zone. The place I often find myself when pursuing my acting dreams.”
The Actors Studio is one of the most famous acting schools and professional organisations in the world. Founded in 1947 by Elia Kazan, Cheryl Crawford and Robert Lewis and Anna Sokolow, it rose to prominence under the stweardship of famed acting teacher and theorist Lee Strasberg, who was a member from 1951 until his death in 1982. the Studio is currently run by Al Pacino, Ellen Burstyn, and Harvey Keitel. Famous graduates include Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Spacey, Jack Nicholson, Paul Newman, and many more.
For Sealy, who has appeared in three feature films and almost 40 shorts, this is just the latest stage of her education as a performer. She graduated with a Bachelor of Performance from the Australian Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2014, going on to train with Playwriting Australia, The Bell Shakespeare Company Graduates Program, The Hub Studio and The Actors Centre Advanced screen acting course.
She is one of only three Australians ever accepted into the Actors Studio Master’s Course.
