It must be Paul Rudd day. Hot on the heels of the Mute trailer comes our first decent look at Ant-Man and the Wasp, his upcoming Marvel sequel (aren’t they all sequels, technically?) that’s winging its tiny way to our screens on July 5.
So, let’s see what we’ve got here: after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Team Ant-Man, including Original Recipe Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Hot & Spicy Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and The Metaphor’s Run Dry Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) are on the run from the authorities, and Janet has taken on the mantle of The Wasp. Scott’s a little miffed that she gets wings and wrist-blasters. We get a brief glimpse of Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster, aka Goliath, but there’s no sign of Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne, which is a shame.
Still, Michael Pena’s back! So too is original director Peyton Reed, and the first film’s playful tone – that shrinking building gag is great. Also, Walton Goggins is in the mix too, which is always good news, plus Hannah John-Kamen (Killjoys) is suiting up as industrial saboteur Ghost, seen briefly in the trailer. It all looks like a heap of good fun – see you in July.
