The Film: Jack Nicholson (at his spunky, self deprecating best) is a slick operator who enjoys sexing up the young ladies. But after having a heart attack and recuperating in the beach house of the mother (a brave turn from Diane Keaton) of his girlfriend (the ever charming Amanda Peet), Jack realises that "women of a certain age" aren't too bad either. But he soon has competition when young, sensitive, single doctor (yeah, right) Keanu Reeves takes a shine to Keaton's "fabulous" playwright. On one hand Keaton has an irascible old charmer that she's half way to "taming", and on the other a gorgeous young doctor. Is this just an expensive masturbation fantasy for 55-year-old director Nancy Meyers? Well hell, why not? Her male counterparts have been doing it for years, and Meyers' film rings just as untrue as theirs. But the real juice here is in seeing two true legends - Jack and Diane - play their age on screen and deliver two warm, absolutely engaging performances that give Something's Gotta Give a bit more credibility than it perhaps deserves.
The Features: Audio commentaries with Nancy Meyers, Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson; deleted scenes; making of documentary.
