Resident Evil, as all diehard fans will know, is based on the very popular computer...

Resident Evil, as all diehard fans will know, is based on the very popular computer game of the same name. The Umbrella Corporation is a faceless bio-engineering giant, whose huge underground genetic research facility the Hive suffers a deadly outbreak of an unknown virus. A commando team, led by Alice (Milla Jovovich), must penetrate the Hive and investigate. They discover more than they bargained for when they realise that the staff of the Hive are not really dead - they are the walking undead.
Paul W.S. Anderson also directed the sci-fi horror Event Horizon, and if you loved the dark shadowy splatter of that film you will love Resident Evil: it will keep you jumping from your seats as zombies claw their way across the screen and rabid undead dogs leap at you with teeth bared. Breakneck editing and a heavy metal score help propel the narrative. The film has all the elements in place to make any teenage boy salivate: great special effects, big guns, and Milla Jovovich in a short skirt. Things do however fall toward the ridiculous towards the end of the film, and Jovovich's acting talents are stretched thin as she wanders around wearing nothing but a napkin, but if you accept the film for what it is then you will enjoy the ride.
