Film reviews
Men In Black 3
It’s not a sequel that needed to be made, but thanks to the charm of its leads and a tone that harks back to the wit and humour of the original, it’s a pretty enjoyable trip.
Bel Ami
The excellent female support cast saves this patchy effort, which is let down by its leading man and a flat screenplay.
The Dictator
A disappointing, often repulsive and mean-spirited mess of a film with seemingly only one real criterion on its agenda: to shock and offend.
The Woman In Black
Packed with atmosphere, this old-fashioned but deftly told ghost story delivers ample chills and thrills.

Fun, frothy and chock full of laughs, What's Your Number? is surprisingly delightful entertainment. Ally Darling (played by the wonderful and not-seen-enough Anna Faris) starts to feel a teeny bit desperate when she helps with her younger sister's wedding. Finding herself unemployed, single and with a rather long list of ex-lovers, Ally is devastated when she reads an article claiming that once you have slept with twenty or more people, you have missed your chance at finding true love.
With the help of her impossibly handsome neighbour, Colin (Captain America's Chris Evans), they embark on a plan to find all her exes and check that she hasn't let "the one" go. This leads to hilarious encounters with the likes of Disgusting Donald (Chris Pratt), who weighed over 400 pounds when they dated but has since slimmed down and found love with a scientist, and Dave Hansen (Mike Vogel), the magician bartender who is pretty nifty with the coins. When Ally reunites with Simon (Martin Freeman), her former English lover, her put-on British accent slips after a few too many drinks, and in a hilarious moment, morphs into Borat.
Directed with finesse by Mark Mylod (Entourage), What's Your Number? is real, raunchy and fun. The tight script by Gabrielle Allan and Jennifer Crittenden pushes the boundaries of the generic romantic comedy, as does the strong cast, which includes the always enjoyable Blythe Danner as Ally's highly strung mother. More films seem to be taking the risk and casting stronger and grittier leading ladies, and Anna Faris does a superb job here. The crackling chemistry between her and Chris Evans doesn't hurt either. A romantic comedy that feels fresh and makes you laugh out loud? What could be better?
