This fascinating documentary series looks behind the gloss of cinema legends to discover the truth behind some of the world's most famous films. True Stories separates fact from fiction to expose the real heroes and villains using a combination of re-enactments and interviews.

Despite the somewhat dry documentary format, True Stories is rich with genuine surprises, with the story behind The Hunt For Red October the most jaw dropping. One wonders why the likes of Spielberg, Lucas, McTiernan and Jonathan Demme thought to bend the truth to suit the Hollywood format, with many of the stories being far more intriguing than the simulacra that ended up as popular blockbusters.

The real-life tales that inspired The Amityville Horror, The Exorcist, Indiana Jones, The Silence Of The Lambs and The Hunt For Red October are easily the most interesting of the lot, however the series as a whole is very satisfying. A must-have for film buffs and pop culture historians.
