Set in New Orleans three months after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Treme charts the stories of the remaining residents struggling to rebuild their displaced lives and culture. Boasting an impressive ensemble cast, including Oscar winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter), John Goodman and Clarke Peters (The Wire), the series weaves a wide variety of experiences - the search for the lost sibling, the struggling business owner, busking musicians - in the aftermath of the crisis.
Created by David Simon, the brilliant mind behind the critically acclaimed The Wire, Treme is an exquisitely made and powerful drama. The acting is impeccable, the writing faultless, and the characters are consistently engaging and likeable. But Treme's true triumph lies in its examination of the town that was abandoned once the immediacy of the catastrophe waned.
The series is filled with warmth and heart as it highlights the deep-rooted culture of New Orleans, but never shies away from the gritty reality of despair that grips the town. It's simultaneously heartbreaking in its depiction of the depth of destruction caused by the hurricane, and infinitely hopeful in its portrayal of the resilience of the human spirit.
