As Lord of The Conquer Clan, Lord Conquer (Sonny Chiba) learns of an ancient prophesy that will see him rule the world, if he can defeat Sword Saint in ten years time. He also learns that two boys, Cloud and Wind, may hold the key to his success if they become his disciples, but also his downfall if they ever unite against him. So in true Herod style, Lord Conquer kills every child in the land until he finds Cloud and Wind. The years pass, and Cloud (Aaron Kwok) and Wind (Ekin Cheng) have become best friends and loyal servants to Lord Conquer but both also love Conquer's daughter Charity (Kristy Yang). Having almost achieved total power, Conquer decides to divide Cloud and Wind by arranging a marriage between Charity and Wind, but all does not go to plan.
A precursor to the likes of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero and House Of Flying Daggers, The Storm Riders is a classic Kung-Fu fantasy. With magnificently over choreographed fights, great performances all round, especially from Sonny Chiba and just enough cheesy CGI, The Storm Riders has it all. Long overdue for DVD release, this Hong Kong classic is a must see.
