8901bf43c19a9d1709d0.jpgAfter the tepid Batman Forever and the atrocious Batman And Robin, The Caped Crusader needed some "alone time". Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns were considered the best adaptations to date, and it appeared that things would stay that way. Then Batman Begins came along. A cracking do-over of Batman's origins, director Christopher Nolan delivered a more practical, frighteningly theatrical Batman: one who would strike fear into the hearts of the criminals, crazies and evil scumbags of Gotham. Yes, Nolan shoots his fight scenes so close that it's hard to make out the action, and Christian Bale as Batman probably didn't need to growl quite so much, but overall, Batman Begins was an extremely tidy piece of work. Then The Dark Knight arrived, and now has the distinction of quite possibly being the best comic book property, ever. Epic in scope, extremely well plotted, improved action sequences and Heath Ledger as The Joker...wow! It's a cruel irony that Ledger's brilliant and best performance is also his last, but if nothing else, he's made that role his own. Need a reason to buy this? Seen the movie a few too many times? Fear not: there's a second disc with documentaries on Bat Tech, the mind of Batman, and even six episodes of "Gotham Tonight", which we see at various points in the movie proper. Combine the great movie with all the extras, and you have a must-buy Blu-ray. End of story.
