FILMINK rates DVDs and Blu-rays out of 5“…this thriller sans thrills is uneven at best…”

More like trainwreck, Road Train is cut from the same cloth as Duel and Wolf Creek, minus the tension and dynamic action one would expect from a road-based horror. Director Dean Francis has framed a handsome looking film, but this thriller sans thrills is uneven at best.
In a nutshell, four unlikeable, oversexed friends travelling in the remote Aussie outback get their comeuppance via demonic road train. A film about a menacing road train should leap at the viewer like the visceral Mad Max 2 and any number of vehicle heavy thrillers, but there is a flatness to the action scenes that is just disappointing.
A few bewildering plot twists later, the intriguing premise quickly falls apart, hobbled by cringe-worthy acting and an increasingly unfocused script. There is a peculiar, unconvincing feel to the entire proceedings, which is not exactly helpful when the whole film is trying so hard to immerse the viewer in a nightmarish landscape where the boundaries of reality and sanity are blurred. A missed opportunity.
Special features include a making of, deleted scenes and director's commentary.
