"a must-see"

72a8af09c2a2b5879797.gifThe first amendment of the US constitution validates the freedom of speech and of the press. This amendment is ultimately challenged when Rachel Armstrong (Kate Beckinsale) publishes top secret information in the Capital Sun Times which reveals Erica Van Doren (Vera Farmiga) as a covert CIA operative. Rachel is required to reveal her source before a grand jury although her rights as a journalist require her to stay true to her promise of confidentiality. This dilemma is not easily resolved as Armstrong refuses to expose her source. This story develops a worthy case as people come to their own conclusions and judgments, most surprisingly the ones of those closest to the victims.

This film is driven by what is essentially at stake. It is a felony to disclose the identity of a covert CIA operative with punishment of 10 years in prison and a fine of $50,000. However this does not defeat ‘water-walker’ Rachel, as integrity and principal is everything when in search of the truth. If Rachel were to obey the Supreme Court no source would ever talk to her again, and no source would ever talk to her newspaper again.

It is at times exasperating to watch the deterioration of Rachel’s relationship with her family, in particular with her son Timmy (Preston Bailey) as she suffers in jail wholeheartedly fused to her morals.  This films encounters the difficult task to generate the belief that extended periods of time have past, however the success of this film is apparent when the themes leave the viewer grappling with their own thoughts and opinions for the rest of the week. This film is a must-see; everyone ought to witness the peak of determination in great people, the people that sacrifice everything to live by their principles.
