“...repetitive nature of the box enures the viewer to some of the fun and intrigue of its star’s exploits...”

This eight episode mini-pack of the Discovery Channel survivalist program Man Vs Wild is perhaps misleadingly titled. While it does include an episode set in the "urban jungle" of an abandoned Polish port - which is quite good - the majority of the set is typical Bear Grylls fare: mountains, deserts, heat and cold; grubs and dead stuff to eat; weapons and rafts made by hand; as well as a behind the scenes episode and one featuring his rigger and camera man that manages to pull back the curtain a bit.

The repetitive nature of the box enures the viewer to some of the fun and intrigue of its star's exploits, but it perhaps also adds to an appreciation of dedication and creativity of Grylls and the production itself as shooting conditions are sillily dangerous and hugely uncomfortable; every set up is a die roll that may or may not work.
