Crawlspace is a slick-looking B-movie that's strangely compelling, largely due to the late Klaus Kinski playing to type as an obsessive madman. In this case, he's Dr Karl Gunther, a Nazi-obsessed serial killer with a predilection for Russian roulette, who crawls around in the space behind his female tenants' walls and peeks at them through the air vents. The appealing Talia Balsam leads this coterie of attractive young women.
Crawlspace goes some way towards creating an interesting character study of a man obsessed with his own reactions to death, but the tendency to schlock reduces its impact. As a thriller, its momentum is disrupted by an abrupt acceleration of pace three quarters of the way through, giving the impression that an intervening explanatory section has been cut.
