Naomi Watts To Play Princess Diana
The Aussie actress is set to play the people’s princess in an upcoming film that chronicles the final two years of Diana’s life.

It's been announced that Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts (currently shooting the drama The Grandmothers in Australia) has been cast in the coveted role of Princess Diana in the upcoming film Caught In Flight, which will begin production in the UK later this year, according to Deadline.
Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (the German filmmaker behind Five Minutes Of Heaven, The Invasion, and the Oscar nominated Downfall) and based on a screenplay by Stephen Jeffreys (The Libertine), the film will follow the Princess of Wales during the last two years of her life - a time when she found "true personal happiness for the first time", and chart her evolution into a major international campaigner and humanitarian.
Of the casting (the actress is rumoured to have beaten US actress of the moment Jessica Chastain to the role), Watts has said: "It is such an honour to be able to play this iconic role - Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen."
Director Oliver Hirschbiegel commented: "I am delighted to have such a truly exceptional actress who embodies the warmth, humanity and empathy of such a global icon as Princess Diana."
There also seems to be another biopic about the princess in the works from Iron Lady producer, Stephen Evans, who is set to make a film based on the book Diana: Closely Guarded Secret, by Diana's former bodyguard Ken Wharfe. This one will, however, cover the years leading up to her divorce.
