Further proof that French director, Luc Besson, really didn't take to retirement, it appears that the director had added another development to his increasingly full-looking agenda with news in that he will write and direct an English-language, live-action adaptation of the sci-fi comic book series, Valerian.

Originally penned by Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mezieres in 1967, the series chronicle the adventures of the titular space and time travelling agent and his female sidekick, Laureline.

Seeming to be familiar sci-fi territory for the director, Besson is said to be a long-time fan of the comic books, and even recruited Mezieres to work as a conceptual designer on his hugely popular sci-fi flick, The Fifth Element.

This is the latest in a crop of projects for Besson with the director next set to shoot the black comedy thriller, Malavita, with Robert De Niro. He has also signed on to helm an action thriller headlined by Angelina Jolie next year.
