Chris Hemsworth takes on Hollywood
Before hitting the big time in the upcoming Thor, former Home & Away star Chris Hemsworth starred in a US thriller set for limited release in the States.

Before local talent Chris Hemsworth was picking up leading roles in big-name Hollywood pictures, he starred in a US film called CA$H, a psychological thriller that is set for a small theatrical US release, before hitting DVD.
Writer and director of CA$H, Stephen Milburn Anderson (South Central), said he recognised Hemsworth's star quality immediately. "Chris had been in the US only a few weeks when he auditioned for CA$H. We saw immediate potential in him, and CA$H became his first film. We knew he was going to be a star."
It seems Anderson made a rather accurate prediction with the former Home & Away star proving he's got the goods to make it in Hollywood. He scored the small but pivotal role of George Kirk in Star Trek and has been cast as the title character in Kenneth Branagh's big screen adaptation of Marvel's Thor. Hemsworth is also part of the good looking ensemble (alongside ex Isabel Lucas, interestingly) in the rather suspect remake of Red Dawn, a right-wing original that hardly needed revisiting, and the Joss Whedon-written horror The Cabin In The Woods.
CA$H sees Hemsworth acting alongside Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings) in a quirky thriller that explores the role that money plays in a bad economy.
The film tells the story of a struggling young couple, Sam (Hemsworth) and Leslie Phelan (Victoria Profeta), who believe their luck has changed for the better when they find a suitcase full of cash. However things take a turn for the worse when the strange and sinister Pyke Kubic (Bean) arrives at their doorstep, looking to collect what he believes is rightfully his.
The three characters embark on an action-packed adventure through the streets of Chicago, pulled increasingly deeper into a desperate spiral of deception and violence.
In an online initiative similar to the one employed by the makers of Paranormal Activity, CA$H's US distributor, Roadside collaborated with Eventful.com to offer moviegoers a chance to "Demand" the film be screened in their city and potentially cash in on $2,500 in the process.
"We couldn't title a movie CA$H without having some real cash involved," said executive producer Prema Thekkek. "In these economic times, we wanted a creative way to reach out to the audience. Eventful was the perfect method of doing so while bringing in one of the themes prevalent in CA$H, the economy."
