Calling All Screenwriters
A new social networking site claims to help aspiring screenwriters showcase their work to industry professionals

In recent years, the internet has proven an increasingly valuable tool for artists, helping them to find audiences and empowering them to take control over how their work is marketed.
In line with this thinking is the newly founded website, Circalit, which purports to be the first-ever social networking site just for screenwriters. Founder Raoul Tawadey says, "We believe that Circalit will revolutionise the way screenplays are sold, and already have over 1000 users after only four weeks of running."
The site allows scribes of any experience level to upload their screenplays and showcase their work to producers, agents and directors. Users receive feedback on their potential scripts, collaborate with other writers, manage their fan base, share tips and become part of a growing network of industry professionals.
While the site is being promoted to screenwriters, Circalit is also a tool for producers and directors. Through its peer ratings system, the most popular screenplays will hopefully come to the attention of agents and producers.
It remains uncertain how viable the site will prove in the long-term for screenwriters and filmmakers but lending the site legitimacy in its early stages is the fact that it has partnered with the Script Factory, Europe's premier script development organisation. The Script Factory itself is aligned with Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Walt Disney.
At the end of each month, the Script Factory will read the best-rated script and provide a feedback report.
Co-Director of The Script Factory, Briony Hanson, commented, "We're very excited by Circalit's project to offer writers the chance to find support for their screenplays. The site is clear, user-friendly and it seems like only a matter of time before Circalit becomes known as one of the essential places for the industry to look for new screenwriting talent."
While it's unlikely that Steven Spielberg or James Cameron have signed up for accounts just yet, perhaps it's only a matter of time... maybe there's a script for Avatar 2 lurking out there.
