AUSTRALIA AND THE DARK KNIGHT NAMED THE BEST OF 2009

The 2009 FILMINK Awards have been announced, with Australia and The Dark Knight taking the most honours.

The results of the 2009 FILMINK Awards poll have been tallied, and the big winners with moviegoers are The Dark Knight and Australia.

The FILMINK Awards are the only movie awards where the punters who line up at cinema box offices around Australia get to have their say in categories such as Best Film, Worst Film, Best Documentary, Best Tentpole Movie and Best True Original, and more Aussie-centric categories such as Best Australian Newcomer, Best Performance By An Aussie In An Overseas Movie and, of course, Best Australian Film. And what genuine movie poll wouldn't ask moviegoers for their pick for the year's Best Sort?

"This year's results are another exciting reflection of the Australian moviegoer," reckons FILMINK Magazine Publisher Dov Kornits. "Once again, films like The Dark Knight and Australia, which were snubbed at other movie awards ceremonies, proved very popular with our voters."

After three years as an open-to-the-public event featuring celebrities, filmmakers and film industry bigwigs, the 2009 FILMINK Awards marks a transitional year for the popular party as we launch FILMINK TV, an online vodcast component of FILMINK Magazine. The plan is to move the FILMINK Awards - both voting and the announcement of winners - completely online in 2010.

"Having watched other awards shows - most of which have degenerated into backslapping affairs shown in dreary TV timeslots - I felt that we needed to take the FILMINK Awards to the people. At the end of the day, that's what FILMINK is really about," says Dov Kornits.
