A number of Australian feature films and documentaries have been announced to screen at the prestigious 2010 Toronto International Film Festival which will run from September 9-19 this year.

The latest addition to the line-up is Griff The Invisible (pictured), a highly-original comedic love story from the wildly fertile imagination of debut feature film writer/director, Leon Ford.

"We're so excited about unleashing our film to the world at such a popular international film festival," Ford said. "The film is a little unusual and something quite different. It's a superhero movie and it is a comedy, but at its core it's a simple love story about two very unique individuals finding each other and giving the other the strength to be what they want to be."

The film stars Australian actor Ryan Kwanten in the lead role of Griff (best known for his role in the smash hit television series True Blood) and Maeve Dermody as Melody (AFI nominated for her role in Beautiful Kate). It also co-stars local actors, Patrick Brammall, Marshall Napier, Heather Mitchell and Toby Schmitz.

Kwanten said that his interest in the film sparked as soon as he read the script. "I had simply never read anything like this script before. It was so unbelievably original, touching, stirring - all these fantastic emotions. Even if I hadn't got the role - which probably would have killed me - it would have stuck with me."

Other Australian films set to run at the Toronto International Film Festival is Ben C. Lucas' visually innovative and boundary pushing Wasted on the Young which focuses on a dangerous night in the lives of a group of students from an elite high school.

Also set to screen is the debut of first time Aussie filmmaker, Michael Henry, with his tense and taut thriller, Blame. Following a group of criminals whose carefully laid plan begins to unravel, the film is a study of the disintegration of trust and the motivations of cruelty.

Finally Louise Alston's ‘womantic' comedy Jucy will also run at the festival. The film, which follows best friends Jackie and Lucy, is the second instalment in Alston's trilogy of quarter-life crisis films and follows 2007's well received All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane.

The festival will also include two Australian documentaries including Mark Hartley's Machete Maidens Unleashed! which delves into the overlooked world of Filipino exploitation films and features interviews with a slew of legendary filmmakers including Roger Corman and Joe Dante.

Also screening is Paul Clarke's Mother of Rock: Lillian Roxon which provides a fascinating insight into the life of the acclaimed rock journalist and an overview of the 1960s record industry.
