Carmilla Hyde, a Jekyll and Hyde revenge thriller, took out the award for Best Feature at the South Australian Screen Awards on March 4.

Hosted by Sydney comedian and actor George Kapiniaris and opened by SA's federal minister, the Hon. Kate Ellis, the SA Screen Awards is Adelaide's favourite annual screen industry party, attracting the who's who of the local filmmaking community.

The four finalists for Best Feature (made with at least two key creative roles filled by South Australians) were Adelaide, Counterpart, Hollywood Librarian and Carmilla Hyde.

This win for Carmilla Hyde backs up the two awards it collected at last year's Melbourne Underground Film Festival for ‘Best Guerrilla Film' and ‘Best Supporting Actress' for Georgii Speakman.

Written and directed by Dave de Vries, Carmilla Hyde tells the story of Millie (Anni Lindner), a shy introvert who is drugged and seduced by her housemates. Awaking without any memory, Millie is confronted by internet sex tapes of her night of wanton passion.

Distraught and confused by conflicting emotions, Millie seeks help from psychiatrist Dr. Webster. During hypnosis, Dr Webster unwittingly awakes her repressed alter ego, revealing a wild Carmilla, bent on seeking revenge.

Filmmaker Dave de Vries is one of Australia's most internationally successful comic book writers and artists having contributed to Phantom, Batman, Green Lantern, Star Trek and Mad Magazine.

Vries is no stranger to awards. In the world of comic books and magazines, his work has netted him two ‘Stanleys' for ‘Best Adventure Strip,' the ASME (Australian Society of Magazine Editors) 1998 for Best Magazine Cover - News and Feature, and the OZ Con Awards ‘Writer of the Year.'
