Gone

Gone

Amanda Seyfried is uninspiring in this lazy thriller, which fails to mine its derivative premise for even the cheap thrills anticipated by audiences.

The Killer Elite

It’s formulaic, but it’s also packed with atmosphere, intrigue and the charm of a veteran action cast.

Tyrannosaur

It’s dark and tough-going material, but totally worth it thanks to the brilliantly gutsy performances and the hope of redemption always in sight.

Contraband

Derivative and undemanding, but if you’re after a cracking slice of cinematic escapism, this won’t disappoint.

THE PERSIAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL TO DEBUT IN SYDNEY

January 27, 2012 14:13

The inaugural Persian International Film Festival will debut in Sydney on 23rd February 2012 showcasing the rich diversity of filmmaking currently flourishing across Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan and attracting international recognition.

The Festival’s four day program includes six feature films and a number of shorts, many Australian premieres and covering a range of genres from the deeply dramatic to quirky comedy.

Festival co-director Amin Palangi said “The Festival will bring together stories from both emerging and multi-award winning Persian filmmakers with the aim to engage, entertain and challenge the audience about their perceptions of the term Persian.”

In tribute to the Iranian Golden Globe® Award winning and Oscar® nominated director Asghar Farhadi, the Festival will include a special screening of his internationally acclaimed film A SEPARATION; Iran’s nomination for the 2012 Oscars®.

The Farhadi tribute will continue from March, in collaboration with the University of Sydney, with the screening of his four earlier feature films followed by an audience and panel discussion.

The Persian International Film Festival is an independent, non-religious, non-political festival.
