August 02, 2010 17:55
If you want to catch the best classic, cult, experimental and thought-provoking films ever to hit the big screen in Adelaide, there’s still plenty of time to join South Australia’s premier film society - Adelaide Cinémathèque.
Season 2 of 2010 Adelaide Cinémathèque launched with a special 50th anniversary screening of the most iconic film of the French Nouvelle Vague, Jean-Luc Godard’s 'À bout de souffle' (Breathless), on Monday 2 August.
Adelaide Cinémathèque screenings are only available to society members and films are screened every Monday and Thursday night (at 7.30pm) at the Mercury Cinema (13 Morphett Street) – with special Brews & Reviews gatherings at the end of selected sessions.
The Season 2 program features amazing highlights, including a journey through the British sixties pop movement.
Sally Potter's illustrious career will be celebrated with a number of her works, such as the internationally acclaimed and stunning film 'Orlando' (6 September), about an individual who lives for 400 years, changing gender during that time.
The season will boogie on and enjoy a few jazzy nights out with 'Bird' (21 October) and ‘Round Midnight' (28 October), before things take a ghastly turn with some Hammer Horror, when Cinémathèque will screen 'The Curse of Frankenstein' (1 November) and 'Horror of Dracula' (4 November).
The full Season 2 program is available now at www.mercurycinema.org.au. Check there for more information.
