Carpets for Communities Short Film Festival July 21
July 14, 2010 09:33
Carpets for Communities (CfC) is a non-profit organisation which offers immediate intervention in Cambodia by empowering Cambodian mothers to break the cycle of poverty. It was created to enable mothers in Cambodia to weave carpets to sell to fair trade retailers and private consumers in Australia with the funds going back to helping the at-risk children of these families go back to school.
In the month of July, CfC will be hosting a short film festival in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane to raise funds to be input into taking on more families into the program and expanding the program. So far the project has given 45 Cambodian families employment and sent 170 children back to school.
The event in Sydney will take place at the Chauvel Cinema in Paddington on Wednesday 21st of July 2010.
Come along for a night of beautiful music and independent short films from around the world, produced by local and international filmmakers focusing on issues close to home; love, friendship, acceptance, adventure, refugee issues, multi-culturalism and many more.
In support of 'Carpets for Communities', all funds raised will go towards the expansion of women empowerment and child education programs.
Tickets cost $20 Advance (before 16 July) or $25 Standard (including door sales).
Doors open at 7.00pm, Chauvel Cinema, corner Oxford Street & Oatley Road, Paddington.
