Classic Silent Film Screening in Sydney This Month
July 13, 2010 11:59
Australia's Silent Film Festival presents monthly screenings of classic silent films at the Pitt Street Uniting Church - 264 Pitt Street, Sydney - from April to August.
This month’s screening is on Tuesday, 27th July. Film screenings commence 7pm
Laurie Ferguson MP, will speak before the screenings.
'Men of Timor' (1942), Damien Parer, 8 minutes, Sound, Cinesound Movietone Productions
This famous newsreel sheds light on Australian soldiers behind enemy lines in Timor during World War II.
'The Talion Punishment' (1906), 4 minutes
A delightful and surprising example of the creativity of early filmmakers in France, who used hand-cut stencils to colour each frame of this unusual short film.
'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' (1920), 70 minutes, with David Bailey on organ.
This famous story has been filmed many times, but this silent version captures the Victorian atmosphere and struggle between good and evil realistically, while legendary actor, John Barrymore is unforgettable in the lead role. A true horror movie, this film is considered to be most faithful to the original book.
Tickets $20/$15 concession and children
