Film features Mt Druitt youth

June 27, 2010 18:32

PLUMPTON filmmaker Saad Adam has finished making his first feature-length documentary, 'The Lives of Mount Druitt Youth'.

Adam, 23, is negotiating a date for the film’s release with distributor Greenlight Entertainment.

“I’m just waiting for the green light from my distributor and for him to tell me if he is happy with the final cut,” he said.

Adam said he was also in negotiations with local businesses about a public screening of the film in Mt Druitt.

“I’d like to have a screening at Mt Druitt Hoyts so everyone from the area can come along and see the film,” he said.

He plans to enter the 90-minute film in 25 national and international film festivals, including the Sydney Underground Film Festival.

He says he is proud of the film and hopes that the judges will take into account the fact that he had no financial support.

“I hope it goes very well (in the film festivals) and that a lot of different people will get to hear about the good side of Mt Druitt,” he says. “I want people to understand that this film was made using $0.”

Adam said the film challenges misconceptions about Mt Druitt.

The film shows Adam interviewing 22 hand-selected youths from the Mt Druitt area about life in western Sydney.

A preview is available on 'The Lives of Mount Druitt' Youth’s Facebook page.
