Finalists Announed For the 24th Warner Roadshow Studios Queensland New Filmmaker Awards
May 26, 2010 10:11
The quality of films submitted for the 24th Warner Roadshow Studios Queensland New Filmmakers Awards (QNFA) suggests that the future of the Queensland film industry is in very safe hands, Screen Queensland CEO, Maureen Barron said while announcing the 2010 finalists.
“The panel of industry judges had a very tough time selecting the best of the best from more than 100 entries, with film students from Griffith University, Bond University, QUT and JMC Academy generating particularly high entry rates,” said Ms Barron.
Presented by Screen Queensland, the Warner Roadshow Studios QNFA recognise and encourage the achievements of emerging Queensland filmmakers and provide an opportunity for them to connect with industry experts.
Previous winners of the biggest new filmmaker competition in Australia have had their work showcased at some of the world’s leading festivals including Cannes Film Festival and include Ivan Sen ('Beneath Clouds') and Michael and Peter Spierig ('Undead', 'Daybreakers').
“I congratulate all the 2010 finalists and look forward to seeing their careers develop within the Queensland film industry in the coming years,” said Ms Barron.
A selection of films from this year’s competition will be screened on Saturday 31 July at Tribal Theatre. Tickets will be available from the box office for $8 with sessions at 1pm and 3.30pm.
Visit the QNFA webpage at www.screenqueensland.com.au for a full list of finalists and event details.
