Australian War Film To Screen In US On ANZAC Day

April 23, 2010 15:24

'Ghosts of War', an Australian short film about a WWI Digger has been selected to screen at
the sizeable Newport Beach Film Festival in California, which has in the past presented
Oscar-winning films such as 'Crash' with an attendance of over 50,000 people each year.
In a fitting coincidence, the film will screen on Anzac Day.

Set in Northern France 1917, 'Ghosts of War' tells the story of a young Australian soldier who is killed on the western front. On the day when Australians stop to mark the sacrifice of the men and women of our armed services, 'Ghosts of War' will spread the spirit of the ANZACs to an international audience.

For the film's producer Enzo Tedeschi, finding out the film would screen in the US on such a
special day was a tremendous thrill. “We couldn't be happier or prouder. And it seems quite fitting to commemorate the Anzacs in
our own small way on foreign soil, as the legacy of the Anzac was largely born on foreign soil at places like Gallipoli, or Northern France where 'Ghosts of War' takes place.”

The film explores the idea that men who go to war must divide themselves into two people -
the fighting machine whose job it is to kill the enemy; and the person still capable of feeling compassion and love despite what they have witnessed.
