Kevin Powell To Introduce Sydney Season Of 'The Red Shoes'
March 09, 2010 16:32
The Chauvel Cinema & Chapel Distribution are proud to present an exclusive Sydney theatrical season of the fully restored 'The Red Shoes,' Michael Powell and Emeric Pressberger’s 1948 Technicolor masterpiece.
Kevin Powell, the son of co-director Michael Powell, will introduce the opening night screening at 6.30pm on Thursday 18 March at Chauvel.
A major influence for such filmmakers as Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Spielberg, the landmark classic 'The Red Shoes' stars Ms. Shearer, Mr. Walbrook, Marius Goring and Robert Helpmann, and tells the enchanting and captivating story of an ambitious young ballerina who joins a world-famous ballet company run by a tyrannical artistic director and how she falls foul of his jealousy and almost inhuman discipline.
With over 200 reels of film and sound elements, including the original three strip Technicolor camera negatives, legendary Academy award winning filmmaker and founder of The Film Foundation, Mr. Scorsese, Academy award winning editor and widow of Michael Powell, Thelma Schoonmaker Powell, and The UCLA Film and Television Archive worked tirelessly on the restoration of ‘The Red Shoes' for over two-and-a-half years.
Tickets are now on sale, and can be purchased in person at the Chauvel or online at www.chauvelcinema.net.au.
