The Twilight Saga New Moon Smashes Opening Day Box Office Figures
November 20, 2009 11:23
The second installment in what has become a global phenomenon, The Twilight Saga New Moon opened in Australia yesterday with a box office
of $4,950,000 on 500 screens. Most cinemas reported sold out sessions right around the country when the film opened at midnight on Thursday 19th November. New Moon has opened as the third highest opening day release ever, beaten only by the Lord of the Rings part 2 and 3, The Return of the King and Two Towers, which had the coveted Boxing Day release, making New Moon the largest non holiday opening day box office.
The film and its stars have generated a great deal of excitement for its fans and the anticipation of its release has been a worldwide
sensation.
Robert Slaviero, CEO of Hoyts Distribution, said of the film's overnight success, "We have been anticipating a strong opening day but this result surpasses all expectations. This a franchise that is driven by loyal fans, both young and old, and we are proud of our ongoing relationship with Summit Entertainment to deliver a film that meets with their approval."
The third installment in THE TWILIGHT SAGA ECLIPSE is set to hit Australian Cinemas in July 2010.
